The Malibu Wired team recently had the privilege of providing the premium audio setup for skateboarding legend Nyjah Huston‘s 30th birthday party in the Hollywood Hills. With a stunning view of the Los Angeles skyline as the backdrop, our team expertly installed a high-end sound system featuring Bang & Olufsen’s renowned Beolab 90, Beolab 50, and Beolab 8/28 speakers.
The Beolab 90 speakers are true audio powerhouses, with each one packing 7 x 1″ Scan-Speak Illuminator tweeters, 7 x 4 1/2″ Scan-Speak Illuminator mid-range drivers, 3 x 10″ Scan-Speak Discovery woofers, and a 13″ Scan-Speak Revelator front woofer. This configuration, combined with a total of 8,200 watts of amplifier power, delivered an incredibly immersive and powerful sound experience, even in the expansive Hollywood Hills home.

However, setting up these speakers was not without its challenges. The Beolab 90 and 50 models are not typically designed for high-volume, outdoor event usage. Our team had to carefully tune the audio levels and fine-tune the bass response to ensure the sound quality remained exceptional while adhering to noise ordinances. We also encountered timing-related issues that required precise adjustments to maintain optimal performance.
Additionally, the sheer weight of the speakers – the Beolab 90 alone weighs over 137 kg (300 lbs) – made the installation process more complex, requiring specialized equipment and careful planning. The inclement weather on the day of delivery also added an extra layer of complexity, but our seasoned technicians were able to overcome these obstacles.
The Beolab 50 speakers, at 2,100 watts each, filled the main living room with rich, detailed audio that surprised even our team with its impressive performance. For the surround sound setup, the Beolab 8 and Beolab 28 speakers provided the perfect balance of clarity and deep bass.
Beyond the impressive technical specifications, the sleek Scandinavian design of the Bang & Olufsen equipment perfectly complemented the modern, sophisticated aesthetic of the Hollywood Hills home. The Beolab 90’s sculptural silhouette and the warm, natural tones of the Beolab 50 and 8/28 speakers seamlessly blended into the high-end decor.
Fun Fact: The party was so lively that the police came to the Hollywood Hills residence three times throughout the night, and a helicopter even appeared around 3 AM! It seems the powerful Bang & Olufsen speakers were a little too much for the neighborhood.
