THE HOME THEATER BECOMES A MEDIA ENTERTAINMENT HUB

Beverly Hills, understandably, is a town that understands film, theaters, and the entertainment industry. Beverly Hills residents had home theaters before home cinema was a thing anywhere else. And with some of the best commercial theaters in the country right here in Los Angeles and Westwood, we all understand a great theater experience.

Unfortunately, as we all know, the pandemic has taken its toll on the in-theater movie business. Streaming platforms have reduced theatrical releases to short theater runs. If you’re in the film business, that may be an issue for you. But if you’re a film fan, it’s never been a better time to have a home theater! Chances are you already have a home theater or media room of a sort, and you may be looking for ways to enhance your experience. As a leading home theater company in Beverly Hills and L.A., we’d like to share some of the top trends we see in home theaters for 2022. While not completely new, you’re going to see a lot more of these in the future!

IMMERSIVE SOUND

Dolby Atmos, and its competitor DTS:X, are not new formats, and they’ve been around for over five years at this point. However, like most things, new technology matters when it becomes mainstream. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X offer a three-dimensional, near-holographic audio experience from film and show soundtracks. It’s built into any premium audio product that provides surround sound, from higher-end soundbars to practically every A.V. receiver and processor. And in content, Dolby Atmos is increasingly offered in streaming movies and shows from Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO, and more. If you’re considering any kind of home theater, new or upgraded, Dolby Atmos capability is a must.

MULTI-PURPOSE THEATERS

The traditional home theater is still ultra-popular, with features like theater recliner-tiered seating and a more formal setup. But many people are looking for less formal spaces, and some home theaters are more like entertainment hubs with games, food facilities, and more. It may even have windows! Newer technology like brighter projectors, ambient light-rejecting screens, and motorized window treatments can create a space equally adept at hosting a Rams or Chargers daytime watch party as the latest streaming blockbuster. More casual and adaptive lounge seating enables mingling, standing sitting, and any other way to enjoy the entertainment.

CREATIVE LIGHTING

Do you have a Mercedes or other current car that creates a light show at night with color ambient lighting? LED strips and other innovative lighting have made it possible to put lights and create an ambiance like never before. Look for more theaters to incorporate this kind of lighting, all controlled and coordinated by smart home automation.

FIRST RUN CONTENT AT HOME

Maybe the pandemic is responsible for accelerating this, but we prefer to think it’s a technology trend that has come to the fore. When WarnerMedia/HBO premiered Wonder Woman 1984 on Christmas in theaters and streaming simultaneously, it was a rethinking how films are released. With more of these planned, the days of first-run content at home are here. Of course, in the past, many films went directly to DVD, but not usually those with wide box office potential in theaters. With this content and the latest home theater technology like 4K, HDR, and Dolby Atmos, you can enjoy the theater experience at home with no compromises.
