02 / Orluna · Architectural lighting
When a new lighting collection is announced, our first question is where it might make sense in the homes we work on. At Malibu Wired, we regularly install Lutron lighting, including Rania and D2 fixtures. That gives us a practical starting point for evaluating Orluna’s upcoming North American range.
We are interested in the additional choices it could bring to a lighting plan: different forms, different mounting approaches, and another way to connect architectural lighting with Lutron controls.
01
Start With the Space
We recommend beginning with the room and the construction conditions. Is the ceiling open or already finished? Which surfaces should catch the light? Where will people sit, and what will they see when they look up?
Orluna’s DE1 and DE2 downlights offer two scales of recessed lighting. The published specifications list approximately 500 lumens for DE1 and 800 lumens for DE2. Both include fixed and adjustable options; the DE2 wallwash option is separately marked as coming soon. DE1, DE2.
The CE1 and CE2 cylinder families introduce monopoint and pendant forms. These are worth considering where a visible fixture belongs in the design. PE1 is an in-wall light for circulation areas and stairs, with a different role from general room illumination. CE1, CE2, PE1.
Our recommendation is to choose each form for the job it needs to do, then consider how the pieces will look together.

Plan the Controls at the Same Time
The U.S. Orluna specifications list compatibility with HomeWorks QSX and RadioRA 3, alongside other Lutron platforms. For homeowners with an existing system, that is a reason to investigate the possibilities—not a substitute for checking the actual installation. Orluna DE1 specifications.
We would review the control system, its configuration, and the proposed fixture package before treating an upgrade as straightforward. New construction calls for the same coordination early enough to resolve mounting, power, driver access, and ceiling details.

03
Evaluate the Whole Installation
We are also interested in where Orluna may fit across different project budgets. A useful comparison includes the complete fixture assembly, driver, housing or trim, controls, installation, and programming.
That is why we are not attaching a savings percentage to the announcement. We want a recommendation to reflect the room and the finished installation, with a clear understanding of what is included.
Samples will also matter. A specification can describe output and dimming, but we want to evaluate how the light works with materials and how the fixture feels in a real setting.
