When we think about a home’s evening lighting, we also think about what people see through the windows. A terrace or garden becomes part of the view from the living room, dining table, or kitchen.
Our regular Lutron installation work at Malibu Wired gives us a reason to look closely at new ways of extending that conversation outdoors. Coastal Source VIA is one of the announcements that caught our attention at CEDIA 2026.
Lutron describes VIA as a collaboration combining Ketra and Rania light engines with Coastal Source landscape fixtures. It is being offered for preorder. Lutron CEDIA overview, Coastal Source.

Start With the View From Inside
Our recommendation is to begin by looking outward from the rooms people use most in the evening.
Which part of the garden should hold attention? Where are the paths and changes in level? Where will people gather? Which areas should remain quiet?
Those questions give a lighting plan a purpose. A fixture list becomes much more useful once the project team understands what each light is meant to contribute.
We would approach VIA as an option to investigate within that plan, checking the exact fixtures and system requirements before making a recommendation.

Give Each Outdoor Area a Role
An outdoor dining table, a planting bed, and a walkway need different treatment. Their relationship matters as much as the individual fixtures.
We recommend discussing how the exterior should feel during a dinner, when guests arrive, and later at night. The scene should fit the way the property is used.
Our work with Lutron inside the home makes that conversation familiar. It also reminds us to consider the experience at the controls: what should a homeowner expect when selecting an evening scene, and which areas should respond?
The final behavior depends on the chosen equipment and programming. It is something to design deliberately for the property.

Check the Installation Conditions
Outdoor lighting also brings practical questions that belong near the beginning of the process. Fixture placement, power, access for maintenance, and the conditions at each installation point all need attention.
For coastal properties, we would review the selected product’s environmental suitability and installation requirements. A partnership announcement does not replace the specification for a particular model.
We would also confirm the complete system design and procurement timeline. VIA’s preorder status is a reason to discuss availability early if it is being considered for a scheduled project.

Explore the Possibilities With Us
We are interested in how these new offerings could complement the Lutron lighting and shades we regularly install. The aim is a considered experience across the spaces people use, with recommendations grounded in the actual project.
